This summer’s transfer window has been busier than ever.
Top 60 hot WAGs in the Premier League 2014, featuring Arsenal, Liverpool, Man United and Chelsea Stunners.
The transfer window this summer has been more bonkers than usual with several overrated players moving for some huge transfer fees. That means that even the best players are being overpriced. Here is the Premier League overpriced XI.
GK) Fraser Forster moves to Southampton for £10 million
Forster is an England international and he has also played in the Champions League. However, £10 million for a goalkeeper who has spent most of his career in the Scottish Premier League does seem a bit excessive.
Forster won’t have had much to do in goal for old club Celtic because the Hoops are so dominant in the SPL. In the Premier League, Forster will be regularly called upon to make saves in an incredibly competitive league.
The England back-up may have been a success in Scotland but paying £10 million for goalkeeper who has come from an uncompetitive league is a bit of a gamble.
RB) Mathieu Debuchy moves from Newcastle to Arsenal for £12 million
Arsenal signed Debuchy as a replacement for Bacary Sagna, who moved to Manchester City at the beginning of the summer. While City paid nothing for Sagna, the Gunners have paid £12 million for Debuchy, a player who probably isn’t as good as Sagna.
At Newcastle, Debuchy didn’t really set the world alight and is already 29. Surely the Gunners could have got a better price for a player who won’t be at the top of his game for much longer.
CB) Dejan Lovren moves to Liverpool for £20 million
Liverpool have spent big this summer, signing nine players with several costing over £20 million. Based on his performances in Liverpool’s first two games of the season, spending that on Lovren looks like a bit of a mistake.
He has been at fault for at least two of the goals Liverpool have conceded and continues to look nervy in his new surroundings. He may grow into his role at Anfield but he may also struggle to justify his transfer fee.
CB) Eliaquim Mangala joins Manchester City for £32 million
Manchester City’s main signing this summer was Eliaquim Mangala. The Frenchman is a promising defender but is he worth £32 million? Not at the moment, especially if you take into account that he may not even be one of City’s first choice centre backs currently.
Martin Demichelis has been in wonderful form since the new year so he will surely stay at the back alongside Vincent Kompany for awhile. It is a lot of money for a player who might be warming the bench for most of the season.
LB) Luke Shaw goes to Manchester United for £30 million
Most pundits believe that Shaw has the ability to be an excellent left back but, however much potential an 19-year-old has, surely they aren’t worth £30 million?
Paying that kind of money assumes that Shaw’s development is going to go smoothly and that he is still going be an adequate first team player while he develops and is a bit bonkers as so many things can go wrong.
CM) Jack Rodwell moves to Sunderland for £10 million
Since he moved to Manchester City two years ago, Jack Rodwell hasn’t really been seen. The former Everton midfielder has been beset by injuries and when he has been fit, he’s struggled to get in the first team. Now, he is looking re-start his career at Sunderland.
For the Black Cats, £10 million is a lot of money to pay for a player who has spent most of the last two years either injured or out of form.
CM) Ander Herrera becomes a Manchester United player for £28 million
Another player that Manchester United have spent more than they should have on. While Herrera is talented, he has yet to play a single game for his country at full international level. His short statue also means that he may struggle to cope with the physicality of the Premier League to begin with.
A £28 million signing should be expected to hit the ground running but that may not happen with Herrera.
AMC) Adam Lallana moves to Liverpool for £25 million
Again, Lallana is a talented player who did well last season for Southampton. However, he isn’t worth £25 million. Lallana is already 26 so he isn’t especially young and he has only played in the Premier League for two seasons.
Lallana’s ability to play in a number of positions will be useful for Liverpool but for £25 million you’d expect a player to do something special on a regular basis. That won’t happen with Lallana.
RW) Lazar Markovic joins Liverpool for £20 million.
Liverpool certainly have spent a lot this summer and another £20 million plus buy was Lazar Markovic. The winger may be one of the most promising players to come out of Serbia, but spending £20 million on a player who will take time to adapt to the Premier League is a big gamble.
LW) Angel Di Maria breaks British transfer record in £60 million move to Manchester United
Everyone knows that Angel Di Maria is a very good player. However, Man Utd have once again over spent on a player in this summers transfer market. Breaking the British transfer record for Di Maria may have been more of a statement of intent by United as they have probably paid about £20 million more than Di Maria is actually worth.
ST) Romelu Lukaku signs for Everton in £28 million move
Everton broke their record transfer in order to sign Lukaku, a player who made a big impression on the Toffees during his loan spell their last season. There is no doubt that the Belgian striker is a good player, but he isn’t quite worth £28 million.
The striker is still learning and can also be a bit injury prone so it is a risk for Everton to spend that much on a young forward.
