Manchester United forward Javier Hernandez looks set to leave the club before the transfer window slams shut on Monday evening, with Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio now reporting that European champions Real Madrid have emerged as surprise contenders for the Mexican’s signature.
Serie A champions Juventus had been believed to be leading the race for the signing of Hernandez, but the report suggests that Carlo Ancelotti and his superiors have now well and truly entered the race for a player who seems to have no future at Old Trafford.
Hernandez arrived at United from the Mexican League and started with a bang at Old Trafford, impressing with his movement and clinical finishing, but criticism of his limited all-round game has continued to grow over the last couple of seasons.
He struggled in attack for United during their catastrophic 4-0 defeat to MK Dons in the League Cup and is largely expected to be allowed to depart Old Trafford before close of play on Monday.
It could be that Real are lining up Hernandez as an alternative to Radamel Falcao, the AS Monaco and Colombia striker who has his heart set on a move to the Bernabeu, but whose clubs are likely to demand a huge loan fee for his services, let alone the financial requirement to sign him on a permanent deal.
