Liverpool’s Predicted XI V Tottenham, With New Boys Balotelli & Lallana In Line For Debut

Brendan Rodgers Liverpool Brendan Rodgers likely to start his new stars from the bench…

Here’s the team we reckon Brendan Rodgers will select to start against Spurs on Sunday lunchtime, leaving fit again new signing Adam Lallana on the bench alongside £16m maverick Mario Balotelli.

GK) Simon Mignolet

Mignolet will hope for a mistake-free afternoon, after letting in a weak third goal against Manchester City last Monday.

DR) Javier Manquillo

With Glen Johnson injured, young Manquillo will likely get the nod on the right of defence. He did very well on Premier League opening day against Southampton, and could cement the position as his own.

DC) Mamadou Sakho

With Martin Skrtel a major doubt and Daniel Agger heading to Brondby, Sakho could get the callup to start alongside summer signing Lovren.

DC) Dejan Lovren

Lovren was, to be fair, pretty awful against City, and will need to massively up his level after a £20m summer move.

DL) Alberto Moreno

The Spanish summer signing should have recovered from a twisted ankle in time to make his second start for the Reds.

MC) Steven Gerrard

The club captain will sit deep and look to spray passes to his pacy attackers.

MC) Jordan Henderson

Henderson will be charged with pressing and harrying Spurs when they’re in possession of the football. The Englishman also has the ability to break forward and join in with Liverpool attacks.

MC) Joe Allen

Allen was arguably Liverpool’s best player versus City, and should keep his place in the side as a result – although Adam Lallana could replace him from the bench.

AMR) Raheem Sterling

Sterling terrorised Spurs in the reverse fixture last season, and will hope to do the same against Mauricio Pochettino’s men.

AML) Lazar Markovic

The biggest change for this fixture could see Brazilian playmaker Coutinho dropping to the bench in favour of the Serbian summer signing. Markovic is more dynamic, and Coutinho continually gave the ball away against City.

FC) Daniel Sturridge

Sturridge will lead the line, but if the Reds fall behind, don’t be surprised to see Mario Balotelli join him up top from the bench.
