Liverpool take on Manchester United tonight, as the two Premier League giants clash in the final of the International Champions Cup.
As far as pre-season friendlies go, this is about as close as they come to feeling like a truly competitive fixture – with both of these team’s fans likely to be demanding success against one of their fiercest rivals.
Manchester United progressed to the final by winning Pool A. They defeated Roma (3-2) and Real Madrid (3-1), while they also edged Inter Milan on penalties after a 0-0 draw.
Liverpool won Pool B following success against Olympiacos (1-0) and AC Milan (2-0), while they too won a penalty shootout – beating Manchester City after their game ended 2-2.
For both teams, the game will act as a penultimate pre-season friendly, with Liverpool facing Borussia Dortmund on Sunday, and United taking on Valencia next Tuesday before the Premier League season gets underway the following weekend.
Both sides will likely start tonight’s match with similar line-ups to the rest of their US Tour games. The likes of Liverpool’s new signing Dejan Lovren will not be included.
