Two first half goals from Lukas Podolski put Arsenal in control against a very cagey Coventry City side who put in a more attacking display in the second period.

Subs Oliver Giroud and Santi Cazorla netted late on to give the Gunners a relatively easy win over the Sky Blues, here’s how we rated the Gunners side.

Carl Jenkinson Arsenal

Lukasz Fabianski – 6

Didn’t have a great deal to do but somehow still doesn’t seem all that comfortably between the sticks, his fellow countryman Wojciech Szczesny won’t be losing any sleep.

Carl Jenkinson – 6

As always the England man is far more comfortable going forward than when on the back foot and hasn’t developed a great understanding with Serge Gnabry as yet.

Per Mertesacker – 7

Solid as ever though in the second half he and his defensive team-mates did perhaps ‘turn-off’ at times, headed assist for second goal.

Laurent Koscielny – 7

Managed to keep Coventry City striker Leon Clarke quiet for most of the game and calm and assured as ever.

Kieran Gibbs – 7

Always ready to get forward and troubled Coventry City’s defence with some decent crosses, provided assist for third goal.

Mesut Ozil Arsenal

Jack Wilshere – 6

A few misplaced passes and generally slowed the play down when in the final third.

Serge Gnabry – 6

Youngster failed to make a impact and put in a less effective display than in recent weeks.

Mesut Ozil – 8

German really seemed up for it tonight, always looking to make things happen and rarely lost the ball.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 6

Feeling his way back after injury, largely ineffective.

Nicklas Bendtner Arsenal

Nicklas Bendtner – 6

Tried his hardest to get involved but committed a fair few air shots and scuffed finishes.

Lukas Podolski – 8

Clinical when in front of goal the experienced striker made light work of breaching the Sky Blues defence.

Subs

Gedion Zelalem – 6

16 year old made his senior debut but didn’t do much which is fair enough given he is only 16!

Olivier Giroud – 7

Scored from a Gibbs centre five minutes after coming on.

Santi Cazorla – 7

Another effective cameo as the Spaniard netted the fourth.
