David de Gea Manchester United Arsenal

GK) David De Gea – 9

The stopper could do nothing about Steven NZonzi’s powerful drive in the first half, and his incredible late saves rescued the three points for Man Utd. Continues to be United’s best player week-in week-out.

Antonio Valencia Manchester United

DR) Antonio Valencia – 7

Very strong down the right, put in dangerous crosses and was defensively solid throughout.

DC) Chris Smalling – 7.5

The defender put in a good performance, a couple of shaky moments aside. His partnership with Rojo is looking promising.Marcos Rojo Manchester United

DC) Marcos Rojo – 7

A good performance in the centre, and got a goal (sort of) when he got the faintest of touches on Juan Mata’s free kick.

DL) Ashley Young – 7.5

His off-the-line clearance at the end was just part of a great overall performance. Genuinely looks more effective at wing-back than anywhere else.Michael Carrick Manchester United

CM) Michael Carrick – 6.5

Did well dropping deeper as a third centre-back, but often too quiet and failed to control the game towards then end when Stoke were pressing.

CM) Marouane Fellaini – 7

Was a vital physical presence against Stoke’s larger players, and got the all-important opening goal. Still prone to occasional sloppiness in possession in the middle however.Ander Herrera Manchester United

CM) Ander Herrera – 7

Was guilty of an awful miss and a few misplaced passes, but provided good energy in the middle and made an important late tackle on the edge of his own box.

AM) Juan Mata – 7

Had a strong first half, and his great set piece delivery lead to the goal, but still guilty of ducking out of challenges too often.Robin Van Persie Manchester United1

ST) Robin Van Persie – 6

Misses chances, let passes go astray and didn’t work as hard as his striker partner.

ST) James Wilson – 7

Didn’t get much service from Van Persie or the rest of the side, but still fashioned a few chances and worked hard around the box.
