Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck is having a shock medical with Arsenal, report Sky Sports, as the Gunners move
closer to securing a move for that fabled centre forward, a chase that has defined their transfer deadline day.

Welbeck was reportedly made available for transfer by Manchester United recently, despite being involved in their last two matches, and had been linked with a number of Premier League clubs including Everton, Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland.

It would appear that Arsenal are going to win the race for the United academy graduate, however, with Welbeck having become the key target for Arsene Wenger, who has become desperate for a new senior striker after Olivier Giroud was ruled out for a number of months with a broken foot sustained in the Premier League draw at Everton.

Recent matches against Besiktas and Everton had seen United toy with Alexis Sanchez and youngster Yaya Sanogo as the lone striker, but with the Frenchman having toiled in yesterday’s draw at Leicester City, Gunners fans pleaded with their manager to go out and sign a new option in attack.

It looks as though Wenger has bowed to their calls, despite having flown out to Rome to take part in a charity match today, with Welbeck’s move to the Emirates Stadium seemingly on the verge of completion.
