Arsenal have agreed a new four-year contract with Olivier Giroud, report the Mirror, with the deal, that is worth in the region of £80,000 per week, to be announced within the next few weeks.

The French international striker is currently out with an injury that is expected to sideline him until the new year but, despite his loss absence having been tempered somewhat by the ease with which Danny Welbeck has settled into life at the Emirates Stadium since his £16 million move from Manchester United, remains a key part of Arsene Wenger’s plans for the club.
Without the pace of Welbeck with more of an ability to hold the ball up and provide a threat in the air, Giroud offers an alternative option to the new man and it will be interesting to see what extent Wenger decides to use the pair in a rotation system once Giroud returns to fitness after Christmas.
The agreement of a new deal, that will keep Giroud at the club until 2018, is a clear show of faith from Wenger in the former Montpellier striker, who has not always been a fans’ favourite since his move from Ligue 1.
Many have criticised his lack of pace and mobility but, with a different option to provide the attributes that Giroud lacks, he could well be appreciated more for his positives once he returns to first team action.
