Monday Night Football action this week between the Indianapolis Colts and New York Giants. The Colts are leading the AFC South and really don’t have much in competition behind them. The Giants are in third place in the NFC East and look to be going nowhere. The Colts have won five of their last six but they’re coming off a lopsided defeat against the Steelers at Pittsburgh. The Giants have lost two straight both on the road and both against divisional rivals Dallas and Philadelphia.
The Giants’ championship window may have already shut. The certainly don’t look like a team that’s on the verge of ‘going on a run’. Eli Manning hasn’t looked fluent in the retooled offense and has a bigger problem with Victor Cruz out of the lineup. Rashad Jennings might be ready to return soon but he’s listed as ‘doubtful’ for this game. The New York defense is mediocre at best and ranks middle of the pack in most statistical categories. New York isn’t a team that ‘loses but covers’. All four of their losses this year are by double digits.
A mediocre defense isn’t going to get the job done against Andrew Luck who this year has entered the ranks of elite quarterbacks. He currently leads the league in passing yardage, is tied for the top spot in touchdown passes (with a guy named Peyton Manning that’s supposed to be pretty good) and leads yards per game. More impressively, the Colts’ defense has improved dramatically this year even with last week’s defensive debacle at Pittsburgh.
Colts are legit and the Giants aren’t. Don’t think that the Giants can stop the Colts’ offense and the New York offense can’t trade points with Luck and company. Colts on a 17-5 SU/15-6-1 ATS run as a favorite. More significantly, Indy has been beastly coming off a loss–currently on a 13-1 ATS run in that situation. It looks like it might be time for rebuilding in New York while the Colts look like they’re just hitting their prime as a team. Colts win by double digits and embarrass the Giants on Monday Night Football.
