Exclusive: Tottenham Manager Mauricio Pochettino Methods Up Pursuit Of £28m Globe Cup Duo

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino looks set to make major strides in bringing in two new midfield players this summer, with a £28m double swoop on two impressive World Cup performers, CaughtOffside understands.

The former Southampton boss is starting to get busy in the transfer market with his new club after closing in on the signing of promising young Swansea City left-back Ben Davies, and is now hoping to follow that up with two quality additions to his squad in the attacking midfield department.

First, Spurs will rival the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea for the signing of £20m-rated Paris Saint-Germain winger Ezequiel Lavezzi, who has been a key player for Argentina in their World Cup bid so far, and who looks likely to be available this summer after struggling to command a regular place in Laurent Blanc’s side.

Although the 29-year-old has not quite hit the best form from his Napoli days at PSG, he remains a highly regarded talent, and finished the 2013/14 season with a good record of 12 goals and 10 assists in 48 appearances in all competitions, showing that he could surely become a key player for his fellow countryman Pochettino at White Hart Lane.

Lining up alongside Lavezzi next season could be another eye-catching World Cup star, and a somewhat surprise one at that, as the Tottenham boss hopes to snap up in-form Fulham and Costa Rica winger Bryan Ruiz for around £8m.

Although the 28-year-old has only ever shown flashes of his best ability in the Premier League with Fulham, Pochettino is seemingly a fan of the player, who impressed in a loan spell with PSV this season and who has proven a key player for Costa Rica on their run to the quarter-finals of the World Cup.

After netting the winner in a major upset against Italy, Ruiz has also been in good form to find the back of the net in last night’s victory over Greece, scoring in the penalty shoot-out after a close encounter went to extra time.

Lavezzi and Ruiz should provide this Spurs side with some new-look Latin American flair and creativity as Pochettino looks to put his own stamp on the squad inherited from his predecessors Tim Sherwood and Andre Villas-Boas.

The likes of Aaron Lennon, Nacher Chadli, Lewis Holtby and Erik Lamela could yet make way this summer to help fund these moves in the transfer market.
