Chelsea’s search for a long term replacement for veteran Ashley Cole has led Jose Mourinho to the Vicente Calderon and a bid for Atletico Madrid left-back Felipe Luis according to the Metro.

This source claims that the west London side are closing in on a deal to sign the £16.5m rated Brazilian who has been in excellent form this term.

The 28 year old is into his third season in the Spanish capital and has been a consistent performer helping Atletico Madrid to Europa League and Copa del Rey successes and could well pick up a La Liga and Champions League crown to that hoard this term.

Mourinho had been interested in Southampton’s Luke Shaw but the teenager’s £30m price-tag may have scared off the Blues boss and Felipe Luis is clearly a more experienced option and therefore perhaps less of a risk.

Cesar Azpilicueta has been used on the left side of the defence for much of the campaign, and to great effect, but is more commonly used as a right-back hence Mourinho’s push to bring in a fresh option this summer.
