Anfield side chase St Mary’s centre-back.
Check in to West Ham United vs Liverpool
Liverpool have set their sights on Southampton centre-back Dejan Lovren as Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers looks to strengthen his leaky defence according to the Sunday Mirror.
Rodgers targeted the 24 year old Croatian last summer but missed out as the then Lyon man opted to move to St Mary’s, though may perhaps be tempted by a move to a Liverpool side who are likely to be able to offer Champions League football to any prospective target next term.
Liverpool have been scoring goals for fun but have had real trouble keeping things tight at the back and there have been question marks over the consistency of both Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger whilst new signing Kolo Toure has been error prone whenever called upon.
Though Liverpool are top of the table they have conceded an alarming amount of goals and even during their current 13 match unbeaten run they have let in an 16 goals, including shipping in three against relegation strugglers Cardiff City and Swansea City.
Lovren has been in outstanding form since moving to the south-coast though any bid for the Southampton man would have to be in excess of the £8.5m the Saints paid for the tough tackler last June.
