England international midfielder Ross Barkley put pen to paper on a new four-year contract on Tuesday, 24 hours before the Toffees snapped up Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea in a permanent transfer.
Everton broke their transfer record to land Lukaku, shelling out somewhere in the region of £25m for the 21-year-old.
Lukaku spent last season on loan at Goodison Park, scoring 16 goals and providing six assists in 31 Premier League games.
Meanwhile, Barkley, 20, netted six times in 34 top-flight appearances.
Both players represented their respective nations at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Barkley welcomed the news that Everton had signed Lukaku, posting the below image to Instagram, along with the message: “Glad to have the big fella back”.
Lukaku is likely to line up against his former club when Everton clash with Chelsea on Merseyside on Saturday August 30.
The former Anderlecht youth made just 15 first-team appearances for the London club, after joining them in August 2011.
In addition to his season with Everton, he spent one term on loan at West Bromwich Albion, for whom he bagged 17 goals.
