Liverpool have already signed nine new players this summer, and there could still be more arrivals on the horizon. It has been suggested that Brendan Rodgers has retained his interest in Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri, while they have also been linked with Argentina’s World Cup goalkeeper Sergio Romero.
Here is how a Liverpool team made up entirely of summer signings could look:
GK) Sergio Romero
The 27-year-old Argentine World Cup goalkeeper is believed to be available from current club Sampdoria, and could provide useful back-up to Simon Mignolet.
RB) Javi Manquillo
The young Spaniard, signed on a two-year loan deal from Atletico Madrid, has been impressive during the early days of his Liverpool career. He could provide real competition for Glen Johnson.
CB) Dejan Lovren
The Croatian defender has slotted straight into the Liverpool defence alongside Martin Skrtel. Was one of the best defenders in the Premier League last season while with Southampton.
LB) Alberto Moreno
The young Spaniard helped Sevilla win the Europa League last season, but he faces plenty of competition for his place at Liverpool, with Jose Enrique and Jon Flanagan also looking for his spot.
CM) Emre Can
The combative, former Bayer Leverkusen man is viewed as one of the best young holding midfielders in Europe, and he will be hoping to enhance his reputation at Anfield this season.
CM) Adam Lallana
The former Southampton man enjoyed an incredible rise with the Saints in recent years, which saw him included in England’s World Cup squad earlier this summer. Unfortunately, injuries have prevented his Anfield debut so far.
RW) Xherdan Shaqiri
The Swiss star has spoken openly about his frustration at Bayern Munich, where he plays second fiddle to the likes of Arjen Robben and Francky Ribery. It seems extremely likely that he will make the move away before the window closes.
LW) Lazar Markovic
The exciting young winger was very impressive in a Benfica shirt last season, and will hope to bring his form to Liverpool this year, where he could form an exciting partnership with Raheem Sterling in the wide positions.
ST) Rickie Lambert
The former Southampton striker has made a slow start to his Liverpool career, but his £4m price tag suggests that he could still prove a bargain buy at Anfield.
ST) Mario Balotelli
The marquee signing who Liverpool will hope will go someway to replacing the departed Luis Suarez. The former Manchester City and AC Milan man will be eager to hit the ground running back in England.
ST) Divock Origi
The young Belgian was one of the surprise stars of this summer’s World Cup. However, Liverpool fans will have to wait a little longer to see him in action, with the teenager having been loaned back to former club Lille.
